The 2009 BMW 335D has 4 recalls, the most serious being a driver's airbag inflator that can explode during deployment, sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and potentially causing serious injury or death.
Two separate recall filings cover this airbag inflator issue: in some vehicles the original steering wheel may have been swapped for a sport or M-sport wheel fitted with a dangerous inflator, while the broader filing covers a wider range of vehicles where the inflator itself can rupture on deployment. Both carry the same consequence, so any 335D owner should verify their VIN against both campaigns.
On the electrical side, there are two concerns. The wiring and connectors that control airflow for the heating and air conditioning system can overheat and melt, raising the risk of a fire even when the car is parked and unattended. Separately, the positive battery cable connection at the fuse box can degrade over time and cause an intermittent loss of electrical power, which can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.
