The 2007 BMW 335xi has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate airbag inflator defects where the driver-side airbag can explode during deployment, sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and potentially causing serious injury or death.
Both airbag concerns involve the driver-side frontal inflator. One affects the original factory-installed inflator module, which can rupture violently rather than deploy normally. The other involves vehicles where the steering wheel may have been replaced with a sport or M-sport unit carrying an inflator with the same explosion risk. Together, these two defects mean that in a crash, the system meant to protect the driver can become a source of serious injury instead. The third recall is a fire risk: wiring and electrical connectors that control airflow through the heating and air conditioning system can overheat, which may cause those connectors to melt and potentially start a fire, even when the car is parked and unattended.
