2011 BMW 335xi

The 2011 BMW 335xi has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate airbag inflator defects where the driver's frontal airbag can explode during deployment and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Both airbag concerns involve the driver-side inflator, though they arise from different situations. The first affects the original airbag inflator fitted to the vehicle, while the second applies specifically to vehicles where the original steering wheel was replaced with a sport or M-sport wheel carrying a defective inflator. In either case, the inflator can rupture violently rather than inflate normally, and the fragments produced travel at high speed toward the driver and any nearby occupants. The third recall involves the wiring and electrical connectors that control airflow for the heating and air conditioning system. That wiring can overheat, cause the connectors to melt, and create a fire risk that is present even when the car is parked and unattended.
