The 2015 BMW 428i has 5 recalls, the most serious involving an electrical short that can cause a fire and two separate airbag inflator defects where a rupturing inflator can send metal fragments into the cabin.
The airbag concerns cover both the driver-side frontal airbag and the side and window airbags. In both cases, the inflator can rupture and scatter sharp metal fragments, raising the risk of serious injury or death to the driver and occupants. There is also a separate airbag concern specific to convertible models: a software error can cause the driver's front airbag to deploy with incorrect timing in a crash, reducing its effectiveness. On the fuel side, the fuel pump can fail without warning and cause the engine to stall while driving.
