2020 BMW 530i

The 2020 BMW 530i has 5 recalls, the most serious being a corroding engine starter relay that can overheat and short circuit, raising the risk of a fire.

On the drivetrain side, this recall only affects xDrive all-wheel-drive models: the output shafts that deliver power to the rear wheels can break, either cutting drive power while moving or allowing a parked vehicle to roll if the parking brake is not set. Three separate recalls cover the rearview camera system, and prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue. In the most straightforward case, the rearview camera can fail to show any image at all when the driver shifts into reverse, leaving them with no rear visibility aid. A separate but related issue involves the camera software producing a reduced or missing image in the display, again cutting off the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle. A third camera recall addresses a narrower version of the same problem, where only a small portion of the camera image is obscured rather than the full view. All three camera defects raise the same concern: a driver relying on the screen alone may not see a pedestrian, cyclist, or obstacle behind the vehicle.
