The 1988 BMW 7 Series has 6 recalls, the most serious affecting 750iL models where the gas pedal can become wedged between the floor and carpeting, leaving the driver unable to release the throttle.
A cooling system failure, such as a faulty thermostat, water pump, or fan belt, can cause pressure to build in the coolant system until the heater core cracks or splits and sprays hot coolant into the cabin. Two recalls address front seat concerns: on certain trims, seatbacks may not be fully locked onto their recliner arms, and in a hard rear-end collision the seatback can fail to support the occupant; separately, the fold-down center armrest can contact and damage the seatbelt buckle when the seatback is pushed forward while the armrest is down, potentially leaving the buckle unable to latch properly. Two emissions compliance recalls round out the list, both limited to 750iL models.
