The 2014 BMW i3 has 5 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk on REx hybrid models where the fuel tank vent line can wear through and leak fuel vapor near potential ignition sources.
Two recalls affect the frontal airbags. On certain vehicles, the passenger airbag inflator was not assembled correctly and may fail to deploy in a crash, leaving the front passenger without full protection. A separate but related issue means the passenger airbag may also fail to deploy properly in a low-speed crash. There is also a compliance recall covering unbelted small adult drivers: in a frontal crash, the driver airbag system does not meet federal occupant protection standards and can expose that occupant to a higher risk of neck injury.
