The 2011 BMW M3 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a defective driver's frontal airbag inflator that can rupture or explode in a crash, sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and potentially causing serious injury or death.
Two separate filings cover this airbag inflator defect, and prior repair attempts may not have fully resolved the issue for all affected vehicles. On the electrical side, the wiring and connectors that control airflow for the heating and air conditioning system can overheat and melt, raising the risk of a fire even when the car is parked and unattended. There is also a concern with the positive battery cable connection at the fuse box, where the terminal can degrade over time and cause intermittent loss of electrical power, which can stall the engine while driving.
