The 2010 BMW X3 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from the crankcase ventilation valve heater, which can short circuit and melt surrounding components even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
Two recalls involve the airbag system. The driver's side airbag inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the driver or passengers. Separately, the front passenger seat sensor that determines whether and how the passenger airbag deploys can crack over time and fail, leaving the passenger airbag deactivated in a crash. On the engine side, bolts in the VANOS variable valve timing unit can loosen or break, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.
