The 2014 BMW X6 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving both the driver and front passenger airbag inflators, which can explode and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
The airbag inflator concern covers both sides of the front seat: the driver-side and passenger-side modules are each subject to a separate recall, though the danger is the same in both cases. A ruptured inflator can scatter metal fragments through the cabin in a crash, turning a safety system into a hazard for anyone seated in the front. On the drivetrain side, the front driveshaft's universal joint can absorb water and debris over time, which accelerates wear and can cause the joint to fail. If that happens, the front wheels lose drive power, which reduces traction and can affect the driver's ability to maintain control, particularly in slippery conditions.
