2024 BMW X6

The 2024 BMW X6 has 6 recalls, the most serious involving the integrated brake system, which can lose power assist and cause the anti-lock brakes and stability control to stop working, lengthening stopping distances and reducing control.

Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the brake system issue, and multiple filings cover the same underlying defect: when the integrated brake system malfunctions, the driver has to push harder to slow the vehicle, and the systems that prevent wheel lockup and skidding during hard braking or cornering may not activate. This leaves the driver with reduced ability to stop or steer around an obstacle in an emergency.

The remaining recalls all involve knee airbags. Both the driver and front passenger knee airbags may not have been assembled correctly, meaning they can fail to inflate properly in a crash. Knee airbags are designed to keep the lower legs from sliding under the dashboard during a frontal impact, and a bag that does not deploy or only partially inflates leaves that protection absent when it is needed most. These knee airbag concerns appear across multiple filings covering overlapping model configurations, but the physical defect is the same: a manufacturing issue that prevents the bags from deploying as designed. Certain trims are specified by name in the recall filings, including the xDrive40i, M60i, and X6 M configurations, so not every X6 is necessarily affected by the airbag recalls.
