The 2013 Ford E-350 has 5 recalls, all involving aftermarket Ricon wheelchair lifts installed by mobility equipment converters, where structural failures in the lift platform can leave a wheelchair user without a safe way to enter or exit the vehicle.
These recalls cover two related failure modes in the same family of Ricon lift models. In one, side plates on the lift platform can crack, causing the platform to separate from the lift and rest against the door opening. In the other, oversized pivot holes in the folding link arms allow internal bearings to shift out of position, which leads to excessive movement in the stowed platform and eventual failure of the platform mounting. Both failure modes affect only vehicles that were modified by a mobility equipment installer to include one of the affected Ricon lift models.
