These two recalls describe the same underlying defect and should be treated as one issue.
The 2018 Harley-Davidson FLDE has 2 recalls, both concerning the rear shock absorber, where a fastener or mounting tab can break and allow the shock adjuster to contact and damage the rear tire, causing a sudden loss of tire pressure and raising the risk of losing control.
When the rear shock absorber's securing hardware fails, the adjuster assembly can shift and press against the rear tire while the motorcycle is in motion. The resulting tire damage can cause pressure to drop rapidly, which on a two-wheeled vehicle can make the bike difficult or impossible to control.
