These two recalls describe the same underlying defect and should be treated as one issue.
The 2023 Harley-Davidson FLHCS ANV has 2 recalls, both concerning a rear shock absorber fastener or mounting tab that can break and allow the shock adjuster to contact and damage the rear tire, causing a sudden loss of tire pressure and raising the risk of losing control.
When the rear shock absorber's securing hardware fails, the adjuster assembly can shift into the rear tire, puncturing or deflating it while the motorcycle is in motion. A rapid pressure loss at the rear wheel can make the bike difficult or impossible to control, particularly at speed.
