15 recalls across 11 model years
The Honda HR-V has 15 recalls spanning 2016 through 2025, with the most serious being a passenger seat sensor defect on 2019-2022 models where the front airbag can deploy unintentionally during a crash, raising the risk of injury to the front passenger.
On the newest end of the production run, 2023-2025 HR-Vs have a steering recall where the electric power steering system can lose assist, making the vehicle harder to control. The 2024 model year has two related driver's seat cushion frame recalls where the seat mounting hardware may not be properly tightened, leaving the seat loose and unable to hold the driver in place during a crash. On the restraint side, 2023-2024 models can have front seatbelt pretensioners missing a rivet that secures the connector, which means the belt may not pull tight in a crash. The same pretensioner rivet issue exists on 2023 models, and on that year it can affect both driver and passenger sides.
Fuel pump recalls span a wide portion of the production run. The low-pressure pump inside the fuel tank can fail on 2018-2023 HR-Vs, stalling the engine while driving. Two separate campaigns address this issue across overlapping year ranges, with prior repair attempts not fully resolving the problem for all affected vehicles.
Going back further, 2016-2019 models have rear brake calipers where the piston coating can allow gas pockets to form, softening the brake pedal and reducing stopping power. This issue also prompted a separate filing specifically for the 2018 model year. The 2019-2022 model years have a rearview camera that can fail to display when the engine is started with a key, leaving the driver without rear visibility while backing up; an earlier remedy for this did not resolve all affected vehicles, and a follow-up campaign was issued.
The earliest production year, 2016, has a compliance recall for a missing tire placard on a narrow range of early-built examples, where the absence of the label leaves the driver without guidance on proper tire inflation pressure.
