The 2018 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse has 3 recalls, the most serious being a Vehicle Control Module electrical connection that can fail and cut power to the front lights, including the headlight, leaving the rider without forward lighting.
A separate electrical system defect can allow the motorcycle to start on its own without the rider present. If this happens while the bike is parked in a garage or other enclosed space, carbon monoxide can build up to dangerous levels. There is also a headlight concern: certain motorcycles may have been fitted with a European-market halogen headlight assembly rather than the correct US-market unit. The light pattern and output from the wrong headlight can reduce how well the bike is seen by other drivers or illuminate the road ahead, raising the risk of a crash.
