16 recalls across 18 model years
The Isuzu NPR HD has 16 recalls spanning 2006 through 2027, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2025-2027 models where wire harnesses can chafe against metal components, causing engine stalls, brake light failure, or melting wires that can start a fire.
On 2025-2027 models, the harness damage can affect both the chassis and cab wiring, putting multiple systems at risk simultaneously. Going back to the 2020 model year, two separate issues affect Crew Cab trucks with the 6.6L gasoline engine: the positive battery cable can run too close to the exhaust pipe and deteriorate over time until exposed wires cause a short or fire, and the chassis harness can chafe against the coolant return hose, leading to coolant leaks, engine stalls, or an electrical short.
The 2017-2020 model years have a rear outer wheel lug nut issue where the nuts may not have been properly tightened at the factory, allowing a wheel to separate from the vehicle while driving. The 2016-2020 range also has a rear axle U-bolt nut problem where loose nuts let the axle shift out of alignment, which can cause the driveshaft to separate and cut power to the rear wheels. On 2019-2020 models, certain front seatbelts with a dual-mode locking mechanism may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash. The 2019 model year has a brake switch that can detach from its bracket, causing the brake lights to stay on regardless of pedal position and disrupting the shift interlock. Also on 2019 models, the odometer display incorrectly labels miles as kilometers, which can cause owners to delay scheduled maintenance.
The 2015-2017 model years have two chassis-related issues: left rear wheel bearing hub bolts that may not have been tightened correctly, allowing the wheel assembly to shift outward and reduce braking and steering control, and frame crossmember burrs that can break the transmission mounting studs, leaving the transmission unsupported and unable to shift properly. The 2014-2016 model years have an accelerator pedal that can stick in the wide-open position, making the vehicle difficult to slow or stop.
Going further back, 2012-2016 and 2008-2018 models have fire extinguisher equipment that may not function correctly in a fire. The 2008-2013 gasoline-engine models have a throttle pedal that can catch on a steel stopper bolt and lock at full throttle. The 2006-2008 model years have a fuel tank that can corrode and develop a fuel leak, raising the risk of fire near any ignition source.
