2019 Lexus LS

The 2019 Lexus LS has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fuel pump that can fail and stall the engine without warning, along with a brake booster pump that can fail and reduce braking assist while also disabling stability control.

The fuel pump defect can cause the engine to cut out while the vehicle is moving, leaving the driver without power in traffic or on the highway. The brake booster pump issue is separate: when it fails, the brake pedal requires significantly more force to slow the vehicle, and the stability control system shuts down at the same time, reducing the car's ability to manage a skid or loss of traction. Together, these two issues represent a meaningful reduction in the vehicle's ability to stop or stay on course in an emergency.

On the safety equipment side, certain LS models equipped with the Executive Package have a concern with the front passenger seat sensor that detects whether the seat is occupied by an adult, a child, or is empty. Internal parts in the seat assembly can interfere with each other in a way that causes the sensor to misread who or what is in the seat. If the system gets that wrong, the passenger airbag may deploy with the wrong force or fail to deploy correctly in a crash, raising the risk of injury to whoever is sitting there.
