The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander has 6 recalls, with the most serious concerns centered on rear seat belt failures that can leave occupants unrestrained in a crash. Two separate seat belt issues affect the second row: the right-side seat belt may have been assembled incorrectly and may not restrain the occupant, and the center seat belt buckle can interfere with the right-side buckle when the seat backs are folded flat, potentially leaving that position unbuckled. The liftgate gas struts can corrode and lose pressure, causing the liftgate to drop unexpectedly or the strut itself to rupture, either of which can injure someone standing at the rear of the vehicle. There is also a software issue with the forward collision mitigation system, where the automatic braking can activate longer than intended, which may catch the driver off guard and cause them to brake harder than necessary. Finally, vehicles with 18-inch alloy wheels have an incorrect rear rim size listed on the certification label, which could lead to the wrong replacement rim being installed.
