The liftgate struts can corrode internally and lose pressure, leaving the rear hatch unable to hold itself open. When that happens, the hatch can fall without warning onto anyone loading cargo or working near the back of the vehicle, and in some cases the pressurized cylinder can rupture. On the restraint side, certain vehicles may have an incorrect guide piece installed on the right-side second-row seatbelt. When that belt is misrouted through the wrong guide, it may not tighten or restrain the occupant correctly in a crash, raising the risk of injury to a rear passenger.
