The 1976 Plymouth Volare has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the brake lines and front suspension: steel brake tubes can corrode from battery acid exposure, and front brake hoses can crack in sustained extreme cold, either of which can reduce or eliminate braking ability.
The front suspension pivot bar support plates can develop fatigue cracks under hard use, which may cause the driver to lose directional control of the vehicle. There is also a hood latch concern: if the primary latch fails to engage, the secondary catch may not hold the hood closed, and the hood can fly up while driving and block the driver's view. On vehicles equipped with power brakes, the brake booster may contain silencer pads dense enough to restrict airflow into the unit, slowing brake response and extending stopping distances.
