The 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the drive belt and manual transmission: the drive belt can come off and force heavy steering effort or stall the engine, and on manual transmission models, the gear shift shaft can break and leave the driver unable to change gears.
Both of those issues can make the vehicle difficult or impossible to control in traffic. The third recall involves the front passenger seat's occupant classification sensor, which reads the seat to decide whether to deploy the passenger airbag. If the leather seat shrinks from heat and humidity, the sensor can misread the occupant and deploy the airbag even when a child is in the seat, raising the risk of injury in a crash.
