The 2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara has two recalls, the most serious affecting manual transmission models where a broken gear shift shaft can leave the driver unable to change gears, raising the risk of a crash.
The second recall involves the front passenger seat's occupant classification sensor, which reads whether the seat holds an adult or a child and adjusts airbag deployment accordingly. High heat and humidity can cause the leather seat cover to shrink, pressing on the sensor mat and causing it to misread the occupant. In a crash, this can result in the front passenger airbag deploying at full force even when a child is sitting there.
