On certain vehicles, water may drain from the windshield cowl area and potentially collect in the area of the wiper motor breathing hole. If the wiper motor is not operating, water could potentially enter the wiper motor through the breathing hole. If this occurs, over time, it could result in corrosion and/or an electrical conduction failure, both of which could result in the wiper motor not operating. If the wiper motor were to stop operating, the windshield wipers would become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the wiper motor with an upgraded wiper motor that will prevent water intrusion.
On certain vehicles, a manufacturing defect could cause the windshield wipers to become inoperable. If an obstruction (such as snow or ice in the cowl area of the windshield) prevents the wipers from returning to the “park” position when wipers are turned off, the wiper arms would be forced to "park" at a higher than intended position on the windshield. The wiper arms will continuously attempt to return to the normal park position, generating an excessive amount of electrical current in the wiper motor bottom cover, possibly resulting in overheating. This could result in the windshield wipers becoming inoperable, or a possible fire in the bottom cover area of the wiper motor. These issues could impair the driver’s visibility and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the front wiper motor bottom cover assembly with a countermeasure one.
In certain vehicles registered and operated in areas where road salt is used on the roadways during winter months for extended time periods (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador), water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto one of the windshield wiper transmission link joints. Over time, this could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball from its corresponding socket. If separation were to occur, the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will relocate drain holes in the windshield cowl and install a wiper module with revised joints.
On certain vehicles, use of the front wipers on a dry windshield surface could cause an accumulation of static electricity, which could discharge and damage the Body Control Module (BCM) and potentially render the front windshield wiper driver inoperable. A loss of the front windshield wipers may limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will add a ground strap from the vehicle body to the front wiper support bracket to protect the BCM from the effects of electro static discharge.
On certain vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System could display an incorrect message on the additional information screen stating: “Low Tyre Pressure – Max Speed 50 MPH (80 KM/H)” instead of “Low Tyre Pressure – Do not proceed.”. The driver may be misinformed of their tire condition and could drive on punctured tires which could result in a loss of vehicle stability, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will update the Tire Pressure Monitoring System settings.
Certain vehicles do not comply with the requirements of CMVSS 111 - Rearview Mirrors. Affected vehicles were produced with a driver's side exterior rearview mirror designed for the non-Canadian market, which would cause objects seen in the mirror to appear farther than they actually are. This could increase the risk of a crash during a lane change, which could cause injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver's side exterior rearview mirror.
Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 - Glazing Materials. Air may have been trapped in the windshield during manufacturing. Over time, this could cause the appearance of defects within the windshield, such as air bubbles, contrary to the requirements of the standard. These defects would reduce driver visibility through the windshield, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect windshields and replace as necessary.
On certain vehicles, the windshield wipers may become inoperative if the vehicle battery loses charge, causing unstable vehicle voltage, or if the vehicle is jump started while the wipers are on and restricted with ice and/or snow. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 - Glazing Materials. Rear door window glazing may not be marked in accordance with the requirements of the standard.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
No corrective recall action is required as this technical non-compliance is deemed to be non-safety related.
Certain vehicles may not comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 - Glazing Materials. The lower edge of the center sun-shade area of the windshield is not marked in accordance with the requirements of the standard.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
No corrective recall action is required as this technical non-compliance is deemed to be non-safety related.
On certain vehicles, the windshield wipers may fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain vehicles, the coolant bypass valve may stick in a position that does not allow coolant flow to the heater core. Loss of windshield defrosting and defogging functions may, under certain driving conditions, compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the coolant bypass valve, and reprogram the powertrain control module with updated software.
On certain vehicles, the wiper arm securing nuts could have been insufficiently tightened during assembly. If the movement of the wipers is restricted by an external load, such as heavy snow on the windshield, the wiper arms could slip and one or both wipers could become inoperative. If this occurs, driver visibility could be reduced, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will clean the mating surface of the wiper arm and motor shaft and install improved wiper arm nuts.
On certain vehicles, if a buildup of snow or ice on the windshield or on the wipers restricts the movement of the wiper arm, the wiper arm nut may loosen and cause that wiper to become inoperative. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain vehicles, a seal plug may have been dislodged from the wiring harness connector to the passenger side wiper motor during vehicle assembly. This could allow water or other contaminants to enter and accumulate in the connector, resulting in an intermittent or inoperative passenger side wiper motor. An inoperative passenger side wiper may result in reduced driver visibility in certain driving manoeuvres, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Note: The driver side wiper uses a separate motor that does not use a seal plug within the connector and is not susceptible to this condition.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect, clean and properly seal the passenger side wiper motor connector. Inoperative wiper motors will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, the ground terminal of the windshield wiper motor may have been inadvertently bent during vehicle assembly. Over time, the electrical resistance of the motor circuit may increase, causing the wiper motor to become inoperative. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional ground harness to the wiper motor.
On certain vehicles, the windshield wiper motor crank arm nut may not have received adequate tightening torque during vehicle assembly. If the nut loosens, it could result in a loss of windshield wiping capability which, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will torque the wiper motor crank arm nut to specifications.
On certain vehicles, if the wiper blades become frozen to the windshield, and the wiper motor is switched ON, one of the wiper rods could bend or separate from the motor (due to insufficient stiffness of the rod). Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
On certain vehicles equipped with an optional emergency exit window, the adhesive bond between the glass and the hinge on the side of the window may loosen, which could cause the glass to separate from the vehicle. A window separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle or a stationary object, causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Certain vehicles were manufactured with rear window privacy glass that fail to conform to the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 205 - Glazing Materials.
