Certain vehicles, with the optional three-seat bench in the second seating row, may have been equipped with seatbelts that were certified to European standards, but fail to comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 209 - Seat Belt Assemblies. Due to incorrect load limiter mounting, the assembly loop is unable to withstand the forces specified by the Standard. Failure of the seatbelt to restrain the seat occupant as intended would increase the risk of personal injury during a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the seatbelt assemblies.
Certain vehicles may have been equipped with a driver power seat track assembly that was inadvertently manufactured with an incorrect worm gear. As a result, the driver seat may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 207 - Anchorage of Seats. During unusually high seat and seatbelt loading, such as during a crash, a seat track worm gear may disassemble, which could result in seat assembly movement, possibly causing personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the seat track assembly.
Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 210.2 - Lower Universal Anchorage Systems for Restraint Systems and Booster Cushions. The plastic buttons on the seatback of second row seats, which identify the location of the UAS anchor bars, may have been installed slightly outside the limits prescribed by the Standard.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
A production change has been undertaken to remedy the technical non-compliance. No corrective recall action is required as the technical non-compliance is deemed to be non-safety related.
On certain vehicles, the second row 60% seat (with a manual recliner mechanism) may have components that are out of dimensional specifications and thereby may not comply with the seatback strength requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 207 - Anchorage of Seats. In the event of a crash, the seatback may not provide the required strength, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the manual recliner mechanism.
On certain vehicles, the driver and/or front passenger seatbelt buckle anchors may fracture and separate near the seat attachment during a vehicle crash. If this were to occur, the seatbelt system may not restrain the seat occupant as intended, which could increase the risk of personal injuries during a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will modify the passenger and, in some cases, the driver seatbelt buckle assemblies.
On certain vehicles equipped with power front passenger seats, the "end stops" on the seat frame rails may be missing. If the end stops are missing, the maximum allowable seat travel may be exceeded, resulting in an increased injury risk for out of position occupants in the event of a frontal collision.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the front seat rails for the presence of an "end stop", and install one if necessary.
Certain vehicles with regular or extended cab without a rear seat, and equipped with a front 60/40 split bench seat, fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 210.1 - User-ready Tether Anchorages for Restraint Systems. The child restraint top tether anchor for the front centre seat position in these vehicles is not accessible as required by the Standard. Without the top tether anchor, a child restraint may not be properly secured in the vehicle.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
If requested by the customers, dealers will modify the back panel trim cover to allow access to the top tether anchor. In addition, owner letters will include an Owner Manual Supplement that describes how to install a child restraint using a top tether in the centre seating position.
On certain vehicles, the second row seat side trim shield may restrict the upward rotation of the safety belt buckle when the seat back is returned to a seating position after being folded flat. If the buckle contacts the seat frame, additional effort is required to return the seat to a seating position. If sufficient force is applied, the buckle cover could be pushed down the strap, exposing and partially depressing the red release button. As a result, the release button will not travel as much as designed when depressed and will appear to be jammed. The buckle cover may have visible damage which may only be cosmetic, but in some cases, the buckle may not latch/unlatch, or may appear to latch when the latch mechanism is not fully engaged. If the latch mechanism is not fully engaged, the safety belt may not restrain the occupant as intended in a crash, which could result in personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will modify the second row seat side trim shields, inspect the belt buckle and will replace it if damaged.
On certain vehicles, an improper wire insertion process during assembly resulted in an out-of-specification welding of the tether anchor wire to the seat gusset. The tether anchorage may not meet the strength requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 210.1 - User-ready Tether Anchorages for Restraint Systems. If a child restraint is installed using the top tether anchor in the front passenger seat, the tether anchor could separate in a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the front passenger seat tether anchor with a new one.
On certain vehicles, the sound insulation in the "B" pillar (around the seatbelt pre-tensioner) may ignite during a crash severe enough to deploy the pre-tensioner. This could result in additional property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the front upper seatbelt and repair the "B" pillar sound insulation on both driver and passenger sides.
On certain vehicles, the manual recliner mechanisms may have a gear plate teeth out of dimensional specifications, which could result in limited pawl to gear plate tooth engagement and create additional movement to the seat back.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the front seat manual recliner mechanism(s).
On certain vehicles, if the front seats are adjusted towards an extreme position, it is possible that the function of the locking mechanism of the seatbelt mount would no longer be guaranteed. The seatbelt mount could detach from the anchoring system when the seatbelt is fastened or opened. This situation, in the event of a crash, could result in personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional locking element on the seatbelt anchoring system.
On certain vehicles equipped with electrically heated front seats, there is a possibility, under extreme cold conditions, for the seat heater control circuit to overheat and fail due to insufficient electrical grounding. Failure of the seat heater control circuit could result in burn damage of the seat cushion surface, or in the worst case, there is a risk of smoke, fire or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional ground harness to the seat heater control system.
On certain vehicles, the Automatic Tensioning System (ATS) cable of the seatbelt retractors could fail. Should this occur, the webbing spooled out by the user would not retract. If the spool cable were to break while the belt is being worn, the belt would function normally in a crash. It would then be obvious to the occupant that the belt needs repair as soon as possible.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver's seatbelt retractor.
On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the right front seatbelt tension sensor may sustain damage after repeated usage of the seatbelt. Should this occur, the front passenger airbag may not deploy in a crash, which could result in personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, either replace the right front seatbelt assembly, or reroute the seatbelt tension sensor wiring harness, whichever is required.
On certain vehicles, faulty instrument cluster control module software may not allow the seatbelt buckle alarm to activate in the event the vehicle is operated with an unbelted driver and/or passenger seat occupants. Failure to remind the seat occupants to buckle-up would increase the risk of personal injuries or death during a vehicle crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install updated instrument cluster control module software.
On certain vehicles, the right front seatbelt buckle wiring harness may have been incorrectly routed during vehicle assembly. As such, the wires could become damaged when the seat is moved fully up and down or fore and aft. If this occurs, the airbag control module will switch to a fallback algorithm and deactivate the passenger's frontal airbag. Failure of the passenger frontal airbag to deploy during a vehicle crash could increase the risk of personal injuries or death to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, reroute the right front seatbelt wiring harness.
On certain vehicles equipped with power-adjustable seat with position memory function, the seat wiring harness may be subject to chafe damage. As a result the covering of the seat harness may become damaged, allowing the core wire of the harness to contact a bracket and cause an electrical short-circuit. In the worst case, certain functions such as seat position, height adjustment and seatback reclining may be activated unexpectedly and be uncontrollable. Should this occur while the vehicle is in motion, it could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and secure the seat harness as required. If necessary, the harness covering will be repaired or the harness will be replaced.
On certain 06-07 hatchback and 07 sedan models, the pyrotechnic pretensioner of the front seatbelt assemblies could, if deployed, ignite nearby sound-insulating material. This could result in a post-collision fire, increasing the risk of occupant injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will remove the sound insulator in question.
