On certain 320I, 320IA, 325CI, 325CIA, 325I, 325IA, 325IT, 325ITA, 325XI, 325XIA, 325XIT, 325XITA, 330CI, 330CIA, 330I, 330IA, 330XI, 330XIA and M3 vehicles, an electronic control unit pertaining to the window lifting anti-pinching device may not function properly and pinching may be possible.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will inspect and if necessary replace the electronic control unit.
Certain vehicles (not involved in recall 98-150), may experience a windshield wiper failure due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. If this were to occur in a severe weather situation, driver's visibility could be reduced, which could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will replace defective wiper motor until 7 years or 112 000 km from date vehicle was originally placed into service or for those vehicles currently outside of this coverage, until March 31 2004.
On certain vehicles, the sleeper section upper side window glass may de-bond from the window opening slide track mechanism. If the window is open and this event occurs, the window glass could separate from the window frame and become a hazard to oncoming vehicle and/or person.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will inspect and replace the window glass as required.
On certain 2500 and 3500 series heavy duty pickup trucks equipped with a Cummins diesel engine and a manual transmission, an elevated idle speed may occur after extended use of the cruise control. The engine will run at this elevated idle speed until either key off, or until the accelerator pedal is nearly fully depressed. The customer perception is that the cruise control will not disengage or that the accelerator linkage is sticking.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will reprogram the software in the Cummins engine controller.
On certain vehicles, in extremely low temperatures, ice can build up inside the engine throttle valve and cause the accelerator pedal to stick or not to return to idle after accelerating.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will modify the engine control computer software.
Certain vehicles fail to conform to CMVSS 212 - Windshield Mounting. These vehicles lack a continuous urethane bonding bead between the body surface and the windshield. In vehicles with this condition, the windshield may not be retained in accordance with safety standard during a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will remove, reseal and reinstall the windshield.
On certain Panasonic Edition vehicles, the driver's floor mat may slide along the interior floor carpet when pressure is applied to the mat by getting in or out of the vehicle. As a result, the floor mat may come into contact and interfere with the accelerator pedal.
On certain motorcycles, engine oil can wick up the alternator lead wires and leak from the connector between the alternator and the regulator/rectifier located under the seat. Engine oil leaking from the connector can be deposited onto the rear tire creating the potential for a loss of traction and an accident resulting in injury or death.
On certain vehicles, the emergency trunk release handle may be forced out of the proper position. A person trapped in the trunk may not be able to release the trunk latch using the emergency trunk release handle.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers are to secure the emergency trunk release cable.
On certain Volvo 850, excessive compression of the seat cushion may cause damage to the electrical wiring of the seat heater. If this occurs, the damage may result in a short circuit.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an updated electronic thermostat and cable harness.
CMVSS 115 requires that certain information be uniquely identified in the vehicle identification number (VIN). One such item is the engine type. This particular vehicle configuration has two available engines, 1.6L and 2.0L. Both vehicle configurations have been labelled with the same VIN prefix that being "2S3TA52C". This was the correct VIN prefix for the 2.0L model. All 1.6L models should have been encoded with the VIN prefix "2S3TA03C".
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
As this does not present a safety risk and there are no possibilities that a VIN could have been applied in duplicate, no corrective measures will be taken.
On certain vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals, the manufacturing process of the subject Taurus adjustable pedal assembly resulted in variability in lateral pedal spacing ranging from 41mm to 85mm. Discussions with drivers of vehicles with adjustable pedals disclosed that some were unfamiliar with the feature. Decreased brake to accelerator pedal spacing may increase the risk of simultaneous application of the brake and accelerator pedals which may cause a collision, injuries or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Owners will be instructed as to the proper way to set the position of the pedals and to take their vehicles to a dealer to have the spacing between the brake and accelerator pedal measured. If the spacing is found to be less than 50mm, the dealer will adjust the pedals to increase the distance between them to greater than 50mm.
As a Customer Satisfaction Campaign DaimlerChrysler has initiated the following action: With certain Grand Cherokees, if a driver has not placed the shifter lever fully into the "park" position and leaves the vehicle running, the vehicle may unexpectedly move rearward after seeming to be stable. Inadvertent movement of the vehicle could result in a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a secondary detent system to the floor shifter assembly.
Certain passenger vehicles equipped with an electronic throttle control system. The stopper for the accelerator pedal will prevent excessive movement of the accelerator position sensor. If the driver applies overly excessive force to the accelerator pedal while at the same time pushing it to the right, the pedal can "over travel" due to the design of the pedal stopper. This will cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp to come on and the engine speed to be severely limited. If this occurs unexpectedly, it could lead to a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a new accelerator pedal stopper.
On certain pickup trucks, the alternator wire may be improperly attached, leaving it susceptible to a possible loss of clamp load under certain circumstances. If the alternator connection becomes loose, the high resistance circuit may overheat the power distribution center (PDC), possibly causing a vehicle fire.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the installation of the alternator wire connection to the PDC and if necessary re-position the wire and re-tighten the attaching nut if necessary.
Certain heavy duty class 8 vehicles equipped with electronic throttle control/accelerator pedals supplied by Williams's controls industries. The weld attaching the clevis to the plate has insufficient penetration and could allow the clevis to separate from the plate. If the clevis separated from the plate while the vehicle was in use, the vehicle would return to idle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Certain sport utility vehicles. In the event of a severe frontal offset collision, sharp edges on the power steering pressure hose bracket could cut the front impact sensor wiring insulation causing a short circuit in the wiring. This could delay the deployment of the air bag system, increasing the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
dealers will have the front impact sensor wire harness wrapped with protective insulation to prevent the possibility of sensor wiring damage during a severe crash..
Certain motorcycles equipment with chrome-plated frames. Copper residue can remain in the tapped hole where the upper fork bridge attaches to the frames. Moisture can cause corrosion to occur between the copper residue and the aluminum frame. The stress of the connecting bolt attaching the upper fork to the frame could them decrease, leading to loosening, and ultimately, breakage of the bolt. If this happening, the dynamic stability of the motorcycle would be affected and a loss of control could occur.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
dealers will ream the hole in the frame head and install a helicoil thread insert and a new bolt.
