2023 Update - BMW has updated this recall and issued a do not drive advisory for all vehicles that that not yet been repaired. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Note: This recall supersedes special service campaign 2014-587. Correction: Dealers will replace the airbag module.
If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury.
BMW advises not to drive your vehicle unless this recall repair has been completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver-front airbag inflator. The driver-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. To learn if your vehicle requires repair, owners may: • Visit https://www.bmw.ca/en/ssl/VehicleRecall.html • Contact your preferred or local BMW Retailer • Call BMW Customer Relations Recall Services at 1-855-217-3002
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.
No risk description available.

On certain vehicles with console shift, the transaxle shift control cable may disengage from the shift control cable bracket resulting in loss of gear indicator reference and shift selector operation. Under certain conditions this could result in unexpected vehicle movement and an accident without prior warning.
No risk description available.
Dealers will install a transaxle shift control cable retaining clip on suspect vehicles.
On certain vehicles, improperly cast right front bearing housings could cause grease leakage, front wheel bearing failure due to loss of grease, or the possibility of steering loss due to tie rod separation. This could result in loss of vehicle control and a crash.
No risk description available.
Affected right front bearing housings will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, the Wireless Ignition Node (a.k.a ignition switch) may allow the ignition key to inadvertently move from the ON position to the accessory (ACC) position while driving, causing the engine to shut off. This would result in a loss of motive power, power steering and power brakes, and would disable the airbags as well as other supplemental restraint systems (SRS). Increased steering and braking effort and a loss of motive power could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Loss of airbag / SRS function in a crash that warrants airbag deployment and/or other supplemental restraint system function could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
No risk description available.
Dealers will install a revised WIN module and frequency operated button ignition key (FOBIK).
On certain vehicles, one of the four rear axle u-bolts may experience breakage. If this were to occur, the joint would no longer be capable of correctly transmitting forces from the axle to the spring. The spring could lift from the axle under certain rebound, braking, or cornering manoeuvres, and the rear axle would eventually be free to provide steering inputs to the vehicle. This could result in loss of vehicle control and a crash.
No risk description available.
Four rear axle u-bolts will be replaced on affected vehicles.

Certain vehicles may have been inadvertently assembled with incorrect engine mount bolts. The longer bolts do not provide adequate clamping force to the bracket. In the worst case, the aluminium bracket for the engine mount will break, allowing the engine to contact the sub frame, ultimately resulting in reduced engine torque or stalling. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.
No risk description available.
Dealers will inspect the engine mount bolts for specific markings and, if required, replace the bracket and bolts.
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY AND HYBRID VEHICLES, THE TWO RETAINING CLIPS FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE FORWARD CENTER CONSOLE CAN BECOME LOOSE. IF BOTH CLIPS SEPARATE FROM THE FLOOR CARPET COVER, THE COVER MAY LEAN TOWARD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING INTERFERENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ROD.
THIS CONDITION MAY INTERFERE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TWO FLOOR CARPET COVER RETAINING CLIPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 24, 2006, AND SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY EARLY SEPTEMBER 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331 OR LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.
