On certain vehicles equipped with a 1.0 L GTDI engine and 6-speed manual transmission, repeated high energy clutch slip can lead to premature clutch lining wear, reducing the mechanical properties of pressure plate material. Prolonged use, with a slipping clutch, could result in pressure plate fracture, which could cause breach of the clutch cover and transmission housing, potentially leading to a transmission fluid leak. A transmission fluid leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of a fire.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will evaluate the clutch for wear and replace as needed and will install updated software that will detect and prevent prolonged clutch slip.
