SOME 2WD AND 4WD PICKUP TRUCKS, CONVERTED TO EITHER DEDICATED OR BI-FUEL COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) FUEL USAGE, WERE ASSEMBLED WITH A THROTTLE CABLE THAT CAN CONTACT AND RUB THROUGH THE FLEXIBLE PRESSURIZED FUEL LINE CREATING A PINHOLE LEAK OF NATURAL GAS TO THE ATMOSPHERE.
Safety Risk
A STRONG ODOR OF NATURAL GAS MAY BE DETECTED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY ACCOMPANIED BY A HISSING NOISE. IF THE NATURAL GAS WERE ACCIDENTALLY IGNITED, SERIOUS INJURY COULD RESULT.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL SECURE THE THROTTLE CABLE TO ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTACT WITH THE CNG FUEL LINE. THE CNG FUEL LINE, THROTTLE CABLE, AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE ARE ALSO TO BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON DECEMBER 11, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

On certain vehicles, the fuel lines may weep or leak fuel due to an error in the assembly process. Fuel leaks may potentially occur at any location along the fuel line due to the introduction of foreign particles between the metal fuel line and plastic fuel line during the connection process. This could cause scratches on the plastic fuel line portion, and over time can increase the risk of an underhood fire causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a new fuel line.

ON VEHICLES WITH 5.0 LITRE ENGINES, THE FUEL RAIL MAY HAVE AN IMPROPERLY FORMED TUBE TRANSITION. THIS TRANSITION, IF IMPROPERLY FORMED, MAY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO FRACTURE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN FUEL LEAKAGE AND IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: ACCENT GT MODEL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DOHC ENGINES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 19, 1996 THROUGH JUNE 30, 1997; 1998 ACCENT MODEL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 6, 1997 THROUGH JUNE 25, 1998; 1997 SONATA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 1, 1996 THROUGH JULY 9, 1997 AND 1998 SONATA VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JULY 9, 1997 THROUGH APRIL 24, 1998. THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS MAY APPLY EXCESSIVE VACUUM TO THE FUEL TANKS DURING THE CANISTER PURGE CYCLE. MINOR FUEL TANK DISTORTION COULD RESULT. A SMALL CRACK COULD DEVELOP ON THE UPPER FUEL TANK SURFACE. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WOULD THEN ILLUMINATE AND, IN SOME CASES, THE VEHICLE DRIVER COULD NOTICE A GASOLINE ODOR.
Safety Risk
FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL PRESSURE CHECK THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK TO DETERMINE IF IT HAS CRACKED. IF IT IS CRACKED, A NEW FUEL TANK WILL BE INSTALLED. A NEW FUEL FILLER CAP THAT DECREASES THE AMOUNT OF VACUUM INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WILL ALSO BE INSTALLED.
NOTE: THE 1997-1998 SONATA FUEL TANKS HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED CRACKING. HOWEVER, AT THIS TIME, THE CAUSE FOR THE CRACKING HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. THIS PORTION OF THE CAMPAIGN WILL BEGIN AFTER HYUNDAI HAS DETERMINED THE CAUSE AND CORRECTIVE PROCEDURE.
On certain vehicles equipped with a 6.0L diesel engine, the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM) wire harness may chafe against an engine bolt. Also, the Injection Control Pressure (ICP) sensor connector terminals may have an improper crimp height that may result in intermittent or permanent loss of the ICP sensor signal. FICM wire harness chafes or improper ICP sensor connector crimps may cause the vehicle to stall without warning while driving. If the vehicle stalls, it may or may not restart.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
For all F-Superduty and Excursion vehicles, dealers will inspect the FICM wire harness for chafing. If bare wires have not been exposed, dealers will install a wire protection kit. If bare wires have been exposed, dealers will install a new wire harness. For all E-Series and, depending on build date, some F-Superduty and Excursion vehicles, dealers will install a new ICP sensor connector with certified crimps.

On certain trucks equipped with an 8 foot box, pickup box attachments may be damaged during the 48 km/h front barrier test. During the subsequent static rollover test required by CMVSS 301 - Fuel System Integrity, a pickup box with damaged attachments may shift or become detached, and may result in fuel spillage exceeding the rate specified in the standard. Also, on all 1999-2000 gasoline powered vehicles with 8-foot boxes, the fuel tank vapour recovery valve may separate internally resulting in excessive fuel spillage during the rollover test.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
(1) The box-to-chassis attachment will be augmented by installing pickup box to chassis retaining cables. (2) The front fuel tank strap isolator will be repositioned. (3) A stop plate assembly will be installed on the vehicle frame forward of the fuel tank to prevent vapour recovery valve contact with a frame cross-member during the impact sequence.
