On certain vehicles repaired under recall 2018-577 (Ford Recall #18S32), the software for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was not properly updated. As a result, a second repair is required. The software allows the PCM to detect a Canister Purge Valve (CPV) that is not working properly. A CPV that is not working properly could cause a malfunction indicator light (MIL) to turn on in the instrument cluster, erratic readings on the fuel gauge, and/or the engine may stall.
Note: Owners are advised to keep their fuel level above half-full until the recall repairs are completed.
Safety Risk
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software.
On certain vehicles, the high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFP) may have been attached to the cylinder head incorrectly. Over time, this could cause the flange of the HPFP to crack. This could result in a fuel leak in the engine compartment.
Safety Risk
A fuel leak in the engine compartment could increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the high-pressure fuel pumps.
On certain trucks equipped with a 6.7 L Cummins diesel engine, the end fitting on the engine fuel lines may have been formed incorrectly. This could result in a fuel leak.
Safety Risk
A fuel leak in the engine compartment could increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to inspect the fuel lines. The fuel lines will be replaced if necessary.
A build-up of pressure inside the fuel tank could cause gasoline to spray out when opening the fuel cap. Note: This situation is more likely to happen in hot weather conditions.
Safety Risk
A fuel spray could create the risk of injury or a fire.
Remedy
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their motorcycle to a dealer to update the fuel tank venting system. A warning label will also be put on the fuel tank.
