The 2012 BMW 3 Series has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the electric power steering assist motor mounting bolts, which can corrode and break, causing a sudden and significant increase in steering effort, particularly at low speeds. A software update may have disabled the front side marker lights on certain vehicles, leaving them inoperative and reducing the car's visibility to other drivers. There is also a head restraint concern on vehicles built between October 2011 and March 2012: front head restraints adjusted to the fully raised position can drop further than allowed in a crash, reducing the protection they provide against neck injury.
