2014 BMW 3 Series

The 2014 BMW 3 Series has 3 recalls, the most serious being defective side curtain airbag inflators that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, with or without the airbags deploying.

When an inflator ruptures, metal pieces can be propelled toward occupants regardless of whether a crash occurs, and if a crash does happen, the damaged inflator may prevent the side curtain airbags from fully inflating, reducing the protection they would otherwise provide. The second recall affects 328d xDrive models only: engine vibrations can gradually damage the rear driveshaft joint until the driveshaft separates entirely, causing an immediate loss of power to the rear wheels. Beyond the loss of drive, a separated driveshaft can also allow the vehicle to roll while parked in gear without the parking brake applied, creating a runaway risk.
