The 2008 BMW X6 has 10 recalls, the most serious being multiple frontal airbag inflator defects where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the driver or passengers.
The airbag recalls cover both the driver and passenger sides and stem from the same underlying inflator failure mode. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple filings exist for this defect. There is also a fire risk tied to the auxiliary water pump that cools the turbocharger after the engine is shut off. This pump can overheat and catch fire even with the vehicle parked, and prior repair attempts here also did not fully close out the issue across all affected vehicles. On the fuel system side, loose wiring near the fuel pump connector can melt and cause a fuel leak, and if the pump stops working entirely, the engine can stall unexpectedly.
