The 2009 BMW X6 has 10 recalls, the most serious being multiple Takata airbag inflator defects where both the driver and passenger frontal airbags can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Several of these airbag recalls are geographically scoped to vehicles registered in high-humidity states and territories, while others apply more broadly regardless of registration location. On the fuel system side, loose wiring at the fuel pump connector can melt the connector, causing a fuel leak or causing the pump to stop working and stall the engine. There are also two fire-related concerns tied to turbocharged engines: the circuit board in the electric auxiliary water pump can overheat and ignite, and a separate turbocharger-related issue on vehicles with larger engines carries a similar fire risk. Both of these engine concerns only affect certain engine configurations. Rounding out the list, rear brake discs on certain vehicles may not meet manufacturing specifications and can crack or break, reducing or eliminating braking at the affected wheel.
