The 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a brake defect where small stones or debris can become lodged between the brake pedal and its guard, causing the rear brake to overheat, lock up, or fail entirely.
All four recalls affect this model, though three are specific to police-configured motorcycles. On those police variants, the added accessories and wiring can overload the main 30-amp fuse or cause the wiring harness to chafe and short out, either way blowing the fuse and cutting power to the engine, which can stall the bike without warning. The police equipment can also interfere with the fuel system and reduce braking ability through separate mechanisms. The brake pedal debris issue affects non-police models as well, and on certain trims the front brakes can be affected in addition to the rear.
