2009 Kawasaki Concours 14

The 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14 has 4 recalls, with the most serious concerns affecting police-equipped models where electrical and accessory installation faults can cause engine stall, brake failure, or fuel leaks while riding.

Three of the four recalls apply only to motorcycles modified for police authority use. On those bikes, the additional electrical load from police accessories can blow the 30-amp main fuse, cutting power to the engine and stalling the motorcycle without warning. The wiring harness added for police equipment can also chafe against surrounding components and short out, producing the same result. Separately from the electrical concerns, improperly installed police accessories can also reduce braking ability and introduce fuel leaks, each of which raises the risk of a crash. Prior repair attempts for the fuse and wiring issue did not fully resolve the problem across all affected model years, which is why multiple filings address the same root concern.

The remaining recall covers all Concours 14 models from the 2008 through 2012 model years, regardless of police configuration. A gap between the rear brake pedal and its guard allows small stones or road debris to become lodged there. Once trapped, debris creates continuous drag on the rear brake, which can cause it to overheat, lock up, or fail entirely. On ZG1400C models specifically, the front brakes can also be affected by the same debris-induced overheating chain.
