The 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT has 7 recalls, the most serious being a defective driver-side airbag inflator that can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or death.
A second airbag concern affects Roadster and Cabrio models: incorrect airbag control unit software can cause both stages of the frontal airbags to fire in a low-speed crash instead of just the first stage, and in some configurations the system may not meet occupant protection standards at all. Two related recalls cover seatbelts across most trims: the belt can bind inside its guidance loop and develop slack, which reduces how well it holds an occupant in a crash. On the drivetrain side, the bond between the carbon-fiber driveshaft and its flange can fail and allow the shaft to separate, cutting drive power while the vehicle is in motion. There is also a recall covering the automatic crash notification system, which can send emergency responders to the wrong location after a collision.
