2023 Zero Dsr/x

The 2023 Zero DSR/X has 4 recalls, all centered on the same core danger: an unexpected loss of drive power to the rear wheel that can cause a crash.

Two of the recalls trace back to the motor controller. In one case, incorrect fasteners inside the controller create higher electrical resistance at an internal connection point, which can cut power to the drivetrain without warning. In another, the controller may not have been fully assembled correctly, leaving it vulnerable to a power surge that also drops rear-wheel drive. The remaining two recalls both involve the key switch wiring: the signal wires that run through that circuit can be routed improperly or are prone to breaking under stress, and when they fail, they shut down drive power just as abruptly. In all four situations, the result for the rider is the same — the motorcycle loses propulsion mid-ride, which removes the ability to accelerate out of a hazard and destabilizes the bike, particularly at higher speeds or in traffic.
