On certain motorcycles, the spark plugs may have been damaged during vehicle assembly. The insulator on the spark plug could break off and come into contact with the electrode, which could impede engine performance. If the electrode breaks in the course of a lengthy trip with high engine loads, the symptoms may not be immediately perceptible. However, engine damage can result if the rider attempts to continue the journey. Engine damage could result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.
