VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT WHICH COVERS THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR DRIVE ARM AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER DRAG LINK CAN STICK TO THE SURFACE OF THE DRIVE ARM. IF THE RUBBER BOOT STICKS AND THE WIPER MOTOR IS TURNED ON, BINDING OF THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE DRIVE ARM AND DRAG LINK RESULTS, CAUSING THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION TO DISENGAGE.
Safety Risk
IF THE CONNECTION DISENGAGES, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE INOPERATIVE. INOPERATIVE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO REDUCED VISIBILITY DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT AND WILL LUBRICATE THE NEW PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT WHERE IT CONTACTS THE DRIVE ARM.
THE REAR AXLES OF THESE VEHICLES WERE FILLED WITH HYPOID REAR AXLE LUBRICANT WHICH HAS AN INSUFFICIENT ZINC CONTENT. USE OF THIS LUBRICANT MAY RESULT IN PREMATURE WEAR OF AXLE COMPONENTS DURING CONDITIONS OF REPEATED WHEEL SPIN.

On certain motorcycles a section of the wire harness located above the headlight is routed incorrectly. As a result, turning the handlebar can put excessive pulling force on the harness particularly where it is secured by a rubber-coated metal clamp. Abrasion of the wire harness sheath and the wire insulation caused by the clamp can lead to malfunction of the turn signals, instrument lights, indicator lights, or fuel gauge. Malfunction of any of these items could create the risk of an accident resulting in injury or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will re-route the main wiring harness behind the headlight.
