On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the airbag inflator.
459,492 vehicles affectedMfr ref: S43Updated June 10, 2026
On certain vehicles, the passenger frontal airbag may have been incorrectly assembled, which could cause the airbag to deploy improperly. This could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger in a crash where airbag deployment is warranted.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag.
On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver's frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components.
On certain vehicles, the driver's airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture and metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material and cause injury to vehicle occupants.
On certain vehicles, a microprocessor in the airbag control module could cause one or more airbag(s) to deploy when placing the key in the ignition ON position, or when starting the vehicle. In this case, unexpected deployment of the airbag(s) could cause serious injury if an occupant is too close to the deploying airbag(s). In addition, the Battery Safety Terminal (BST) may also be activated. It this happens, the starter cable would become disconnected from the battery, and the engine could not be restarted.
On certain vehicles, the wire harness under the driver and/or passenger seat may not have been properly affixed to the seat frame during vehicle assembly. As such, the harness may get caught by the amplifier (mounted under the seat) when seating position is adjusted. If this occurs, the harness connector may detach from the socket and, as a result, the corresponding airbag may not function as intended, causing the instrument panel SRS warning lamp to illuminate. Failure of a frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, secure the wire harness to the driver and/or passenger seat frame.

On certain vehicles, the driver's seat occupant detection system may not be able to reliably determine if the driver's seat is occupied. As a result, it is possible that in certain crash conditions, the driver's front airbag, head protection system, safety belt pre-tensioner, and knee airbag may not deploy.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will reprogram the driver's seat occupant detection system.
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function.
Safety Risk
If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag module replaced.
Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.
On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag inflator could rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. If this happens, the airbag may not fully inflate and fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants.
Safety Risk
An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury or death.
Remedy
Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver-front airbag inflator.

On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect/replace the driver's frontal airbag inflator.
On certain vehicles, the wiring under the front passenger seat may not have been routed correctly. As a result, the wiring could become damaged when the seat is moved. If this happens, the airbags and seat belt pretensioners may not work and/or the airbag system may not turn off the passenger-front airbag when an infant or child seat is in the front passenger seat. This problem could also cause the passenger side seat airbag to inflate unexpectedly.
Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a manual front passenger seat. This recall also affects Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.
Safety Risk
Airbags and/or seat belt pretensioners that don't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Additionally, an airbag that deploys without a crash could create a risk of injury.
Remedy
Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiring under the front passenger seat. The dealer will also reroute and install covers to protect the wiring.

On a small number of vehicles, there may be a problem with the side curtain airbag inflators. As a result, the airbags may not inflate properly in a crash.
Safety Risk
An airbag that does inflate properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy
FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the side curtain airbags.
