The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park.
Safety Risk
An unlatched tailgate may open while driving and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but will require greater driver effort. On a small number of vehicles, the right-rear door lock may not latch properly. As a result, the door could open while driving. Also, if a person tries to forcefully open the right-rear door while the child safety lock is activated, the door lock could become damaged. If this happens, passengers may not be able to open the door from inside the vehicle.
Note: This recall is an expansion of Transport Canada recall no. 2021-285.

This could increase the risk of injury to occupants.

A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.

Safety Risk
