Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2016 Highlander vehicles manufactured May 26, 2016, to September 16, 2016. The brake fluid level sensor may not be connected to the wire harness, preventing the sensor from detecting the brake fluid level. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
Safety Risk
If the brake fluid level is low and is not detected, the braking performance may be decreased, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy

On certain motorcycles, terminal nuts for the 40-amp main circuit breaker may have been improperly torqued during manufacturing process. If poor terminal connection were to exist, the motorcycle might exhibit a misfire or the engine may die unexpectedly. It could also cause loss of battery voltage at the ECM and other electrically controlled components. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.

Electrical noise could be introduced into the YAW rate sensor within the airbag ECU, which could result in deactivation of the Vehicle Stability Control and Pre-Collision systems and limited function of the Trailer Brake Controller system. This would be contrary to the requirements of the standard, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.
