Summary
The 2022 BMW iX has 15 recalls, the most serious being multiple issues where the high-voltage battery system can cut power while driving or, in one case, short-circuit and cause a fire.
Several of these power-loss recalls stem from the same cluster of electrical faults: loose connections in the battery cell monitoring circuit, a combined charging unit that can interrupt power mid-drive, and battery control software that can cause the high-voltage system to disconnect unexpectedly, leaving the driver with no power to the wheels. A separate recall covers a steering-wheel interaction where a driver's hand can accidentally re-engage cruise control during a low-speed turn, causing the vehicle to accelerate without warning. On the airbag side, one recall covers a driver's front airbag that may not inflate correctly in a crash, and a second covers the airbag control software, which can fail to turn on the warning light when a problem exists with the airbag or pedestrian protection systems. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this software issue, and a follow-up fix is required. There is also a display concern where vehicles in valet parking mode may not show critical warning messages on the central information display, leaving whoever is driving unaware of active system faults. Finally, the low-speed pedestrian alert sound may fail to generate at startup, making the vehicle harder for pedestrians to hear at close range.
