On certain vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, the shift cable could detach from the transmission shift linkage while the driver is attempting to change gears. If the transmission moves into neutral and remains there, the ability to accelerate or maintain speed will be lost, increasing the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the shift cable and, if necessary, install a retaining clip over the end of the shift cable to prevent it from detaching from the transmission.

THE AUTOMATIC SPEED CONTROL CABLE MAY PARTIALLY DISENGAGE AND BIND AT THE CARBURETOR THROTTLE LEVER ATTACHMENT. THIS MAY INHIBIT RETURN OF THE THROTTLE TO THE IDLE POSITION, RESULTING IN THE THROTTLE STAYING PARTIALLY OPEN WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
A WASHER WILL BE INSTALLED AT THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE TO CARBURETOR THROTTLE LEVER ATTACHMENT.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the airbag inflator.

On certain vehicles, the nut that attaches the transmission gear selector shaft to the control valve lever in the transmission may not have been adequately tightened at the transmission plant which had been diverted from the production line for repair. This may result in the transmission not actually being in the gear indicated by the gear selector lever and lead to unexpected vehicle movement.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will torque the nut to specifications.

THE RECLINER MECHANISM AND THE SEAT FRAME MAY HAVE FOAM AND/OR VINYL VETWEEN THEM, CREATING A "SOFT" JOINT. THIS "SOFT" JOINT RESULTS IN LOWER THAN SPECIFIED BOLT TORQUE WHICH LEADS TO JOINT LOOSENESS, CAUSING BOLT FATIGUE AND EVENTUAL BOLT FAILURE.
Safety Risk
IF BOLT FAILURE OCCURS TO THE DRIVER'S SEAT, IT WOULD ALLOW THE SEAT BACK TO SUDDENLY RECLINE, AND COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE FOAM AND/OR VINYL FROM BETWEEN THE RECLINER MECHANISM AND THE SEAT FRAME "SOFT" JOINT AND REPLACE THE RECLINER BOLTS.
On certain motorcycles, frequent short-trip usage, particularly at low ambient temperatures, causes condensation, increasing the proportion of water in the engine oil. The water vapour produced while the engine is running condenses at the outlet port of the dry-sump oil tank breather. If temperatures are below 0 degrees Celsius, the condensation can freeze and plug the breather line of the oil tank. As a result, oil tank over-pressurization can cause the tank to rupture, allowing oil to escape onto the rear wheel and create the risk of a crash causing injuries or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install an updated oil cap with a pressure relief valve.
On certain vehicles, engine connecting rod bolts may loosen, causing engine crankcase damage and oil leakage. This may pose a risk of fire, which could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install replacement engines equipped with updated connecting rod bolts.
Certain King Cab vehicles. Wires in the harness routed through the rear doors and into the body may break due to over bending of the harness as the door is opened and closed. On the left side, the harness contains wires for the driver seatbelt pretensioner, and on the right side the harness contains wires for the front passenger seatbelt pretensioner and for the seatbelt tension sensor, which is part of the occupant classification system. Wires for the rear audio speakers are also contained in the harness on each side. If the wires for the seatbelt pretensioner and speaker break and make contact, there is a possibility that the pretensioner may deploy. If this happens when the seatbelt is retracted, it will not be possible to use the seatbelt. If one of the wires in the right side harness for the seatbelt tension sensor breaks, the passenger side front airbag will not deploy as designed in a frontal crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiring harness with an updated version.
On certain motorcycles, the rear brake line may not be secured correctly. As a result, the brake line could become damaged by contact with the exhaust. This could lead to a brake fluid leak and cause reduced braking.
Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2023-545. Motorcycles that were repaired under that recall don't require this repair.
Safety Risk
Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Harley-Davidson will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the clamp on the rear brake line.

On certian CB750F, GL1000 and GL1000LTD, when the rear disc brake is applied during vehicle operation in heavy rain, there may be a noticeable initial reduction in braking effectiveness followed by a gradual recovery to normal effectiveness if the pedal force is not increased to compensate for reduced initial effectiveness, a longer stopping distance will result. If the pedal force is first increased the maintained, despite the recovery of the brake, available tire traction may be exceeded resulting in skidding of the rear wheel and possible loss of vehicle control.
