On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function.
Safety Risk
If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag inflator or airbag module replaced. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Additional note: This recall supersedes recalls 2014-245 (Mazda Recall 7714F), 2018-038 (Mazda Recall 2018A) and 2018-584 (Mazda Recall 2018A). Vehicles repaired under the previous recalls do not require repair under this recall.
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury.

Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2021-136. Vehicles that were repaired under that recall don't require this repair.
Safety Risk
An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy

On certain CTS, CTS-V and SRX vehicles, an interaction between the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) and the vehicle electrical system may cause the driver's frontal airbag and/or roof rail airbag to deploy when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. A person positioned for driving may receive minor injuries, such as abrasions, from contact with the airbag.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the SDM.

Safety Risk
An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury.
Remedy
FCA will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace both side curtain airbag modules.

Certain vehicles have a non-functioning button with the words "passenger airbag off" etched into it. This button is located, along with an LED light, on a console adjacent to the sunroof. This non-functioning button does not deactivate the passenger side airbag, nor is the LED light an indication that the passenger side airbag has been deactivated. The button is non-functional and cannot be depressed when pushed.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the console with one which does not contain the non-functioning button and LED light.

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 226 - Ejection Mitigation. Due to a manufacturing error in the surface treatment process, the bolts that were used to assemble the inflatable curtain (IC) airbag may not meet specifications. This could result in one or more of the bolts breaking, which in the event of a crash warranting deployment of the IC airbag, could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the affected bolts.

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the driver-front airbag inflator. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants. This could also cause damage to the airbag assembly and prevent it from inflating properly.
Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles that had a Takata airbag inflator installed during a previous airbag recall or collision repair.
Safety Risk
In a crash where the airbag deploys, there could be an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag inflator replaced.

On certain vehicles, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), which controls the function of front airbags, may not operate properly. As a result, the front airbags may fail to deploy in a frontal crash. Also, the airbag warning lamp in the instrument panel may fail to provide warning that the system is inoperative. Failure to deploy the front airbags during a crash could leave seat occupants susceptible to increase injuries.

On certain vehicles, the airbag inflator contained in the driver frontal airbag module may have been improperly stamped and/or contains a defect in the material used to manufacture the airbag inflator's metal housing, which, in the event of airbag deployment, may cause inflator components to separate. If the inflator components separate, this could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.
Safety Risk

Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag module.
