On certain vehicles, the low-pressure power steering return line connection may not have been fully seated at the steering gear during vehicle assembly. If the return line is not fully seated, a power steering fluid leak may occur. A power steering fluid leak may create the potential for power steering fluid to come in contact with the exhaust system, which could result in smoke or fire.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will inspect the power steering return line connection.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE NUT THAT SECURES THE AXIAL JOINT OF THE LEFT STEERING TIE ROD TO THE STEERING GEAR BOX MAY HAVE NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED SECURELY. THIS COULD LEAD TO LOOSENING OF THE NUT AND, INITIALLY TO STEERING WHEEL PLAY AND/OR MISALIGNMENT, AS WELL AS NOISE FROM THE STEERING LINKAGE. IF VEHICLE OPERATION CONTINUES, THE TIE ROD COULD DISCONNECT FROM THE STEERING GEAR BOX.
Safety Risk
IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL COULD RESULT.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND RE-TORQUE THE NUT SECURING THE AXIAL JOINT OF THE LEFT STEERING TIE ROD. IF THE TORQUE OF THE NUT IS FOUND TO BE LOOSE, THE RIGHT NUT WILL ALSO BE CHECKED AND CORRECTED IF NECESSARY, AND A FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT WILL BE PERFORMED.
On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 24S44 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-381) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.
On certain vehicles, a sensor in the steering gear may not have been calibrated properly. As a result, the steering wheel could suddenly turn from side to side by itself while turning. If this happens, there could be a loss of steering control.
Safety Risk
A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the power steering control module (PSCM) software.

On certain vehicles, improper torque of the clamp pinch bolt securing the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may allow the clamp to loosen and the shafts to separate. This would result in loss of vehicle control and possible crash without prior warning.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace as necessary the clamp assembly and the upper steering shaft.

On certain vehicles, the steering gear was manufactured incorrectly and, as a result, a steering fluid leak could develop. Loss of power steering fluid could cause a loss of steering power assist, which may result in a crash. Also, power steering fluid leakage may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, which could cause a fire. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering gear assembly.
On certain vehicles, the steering column intermediate shaft is undersized, which could allow the intermediate shaft to spin inside the steering column coupling resulting in loss of directional control of the vehicle. If this were to happen while the vehicle is moving, a crash could result without prior warning.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will inspect, and replace if necessary, the steering column intermediate shaft.

On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist.
Safety Risk
A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Tesla will notify owners in writing and will arrange for the replacement of the mounting bolts for the electric power steering assist motor. This service will be provided to customers free of charge. If any broken bolts are found or if the bolts break during removal and cannot be removed, Tesla will install a new steering gear.

On certain motorcycles, it is possible for the coating to separate from the inside face of the steering damper housing. If this happens, the coating could partially clog the oil bores within the damper. Should this occur, the steering damper could become stiff, making it difficult to steer, and therefore could result in a vehicle crash causing personal injuries or death.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering damper.
On certain vehicles, the wheel hub nuts, outer tie rod nuts, front lower ball joint nuts, upper control link nuts and/or axle bracket bolts may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the fasteners could loosen and detach. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels, a loss of control and/or parts could separate from the vehicle.
Note: This problem could cause unusual noises from the front of the vehicle when steering and/or driving over bumps.
Safety Risk
A loss of power to the wheels and/or a loss of control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, parts that separate from the vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
To reduce the safety risk, Mazda advises you to visually inspect the alignment of the front wheels before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and tighten or replace the fasteners, as necessary.

A POSSIBLE MIS-ALIGNMENT OF THE STEERING SHAFT MAY CAUSE A STRESS FRACTURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE COLLAPSE OR BREAKAGE OF THE EXPANDED JOINT, RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
THE STEERING SHAFT WILL BE INSPECTED FOR PROPER ALIGNMENT AND A UNIVERSAL JOINT INSTALLED IN FRONT OF THE STEERING COUPLER.
On certain vehicles equipped with an 8.1L engine and Hydromax brake system, the power steering hose may come into contact with a portion of the intermediate steering shaft. If the hose contacts the intermediate steering shaft, a hole could be worn in the hose and a loss of hydraulic fluid would occur. If there is a sufficient amount of fluid loss, the driver will hear noise from the power steering pump, the brake warning light and warning tone will activate, and increased effort may be required for steering and braking, increasing the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will reposition the power steering hose. If the steel braiding of the hose is exposed, dealers will replace the hose.

THE RIGHT HAND SPINDLE NUT WAS NOT PROPERLY TIGHTENED DURING ASSEMBLY. THIS CAN CAUSE PREMATURE WHEEL BEARING FAILURE AND OVER TIME, THE SPINDLE CAN FRACTURE.
Safety Risk
THIS WOULD CAUSE THE WHEEL TO SEPARATE FROM THE AXLE AND RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TORQUE ON THE RIGHT HAND FRONT SPINDLE NUT. IF THE SPINDLE NUT IS UNDERTORQUED THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE RIGHT HAND FRONT WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY AND THE SPINDLE NUT WILL BE REPLACED.
On certain vehicles, the front lower control arm ball joints could experience a loss of lubrication, which could eventually allow the knuckle to separate from the lower control arm while the vehicle is in operation. A ball joint separation could possibly result in a loss of directional control.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealer will replace both front lower control arm ball joints.
