BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2000-2001 BMW 3 Series (323Ci, 325Ci, 328Ci and 330Ci), 1999-2001 323i, 328i, 330i, 330xi, and 2000 323i, 328i stationwagon vehicles equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) manufactured by Takata. These vehicles are equipped with driver-side air bag inflators that were previously inspected, but not replaced under recall numbers 19V-851, 19V852, or 19V-853. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to explode or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Safety Risk
The inflator could explode during air bag deployment, resulting in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the driver-side air bag inflator with a newly designed inflator, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 12, 2021. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

On certain vehicles, the positive battery cable connection to the fuse box could fail while the vehicle is being driven. This could interrupt the vehicle’s electrical system, resulting in engine stalling, loss of vehicle propulsion and a loss of function of various vehicle systems, such as lights. A loss of vehicle propulsion and electrical vehicle systems, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the positive battery cable connector with an updated version.
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY TIGHTENED. THIS COULD RESULT IN ONE OR BOTH OF THE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS LOOSENING.
Safety Risk
IF THIS OCCURS, IT WOULD ALLOW THE CALIPER TO ROTATE OR SEPARATE FROM ITS MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE TO FAIL, REDUCING THE VEHICLE'S ABILITY TO STOP. IT COULD ALSO DAMAGE THE WHEEL, CAUSING THE TIRE TO GO FLAT. EITHER ONE OF THESE CONDITIONS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL TIGHTEN THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE SECURE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JANUARY 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
On certain P30 and P35 vehicles equipped with i-beam front axles and 16 inch wheels and tires the tie rod end could contact the tire inner wall during combined cornering and braking maneuvers. This contact could cause grooving of the tire and eventually result in tire failure and possible loss of vehicle control.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
standard 16 inch wheels and tires will be replaced with 19.5 Inch wheels and tires to increase the clearance nad eliminate contact between the tires and tie rod end.

On certain vehicles, the wiring for the 400 W radiator cooling fan module may not have proper circuit protection. Additionally, the bearing for the fan could fail. If this happens, the wiring could overheat and melt before the fuse blows.
Safety Risk
Wiring that overheats and melts could create the risk of a fire.
Remedy
FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the cooling fan module and fuse. The dealer will also install a label on the power distribution center and add an insert to the owner's manual.

NOTE: POLICE PACKAGE VEHICLES ONLY.
THE BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARMS TO THE FRAME MOUNTING BRACKETS MAY LOOSEN WHEN SUBJECTED TO EXTREME OPERATING CONDITIONS. THIS COULD CAUSE THE BRACKET TO FRACTURE AT ONE OF THE BOLT HOLES, RESULTING IN A SUBSTANTIAL NEGATIVE CAMBER TO THE ASSOCIATED FRONT WHEEL AND A STEERING "PULL" TO THE COURSE OF VEHICLE TRAVEL. IF A VEHICLE WITH A LOOSE BRACKET ON THE LEFT SIDE WERE OPERATED UNTIL THE BRACKET FRACTURED AT BOTH BOLT HOLES, THE STEERING CONTROL ARM COULD CONTACT THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
TORQUE LEVELS OF THE FOUR UPPER CONTROL ARM BOLTS WILL BE CHECKED. IF ANY OF THE BOLTS ARE LOOSE, THE BRACKET(S) WILL BE INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE. IF DAMAGE IS PRESENT IT WILL BE REPAIRED.
