VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS. THESE VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED WITH A HIGHER THAN SPECIFIED ELECTRICAL LOAD THROUGH THE ACCESSORY POWER FEED CIRCUIT. THE POTENTIAL FOR CONTACT BETWEEN THE B2 (BATTERY), A2 (ACCESSORY), AND P1 (PROOF) CIRCUITS CAN OCCUR, CREATING A SHORT CIRCUIT, ALLOWING CURRENT TO FLOW THROUGH THE GROUND WIRE.
Safety Risk
THIS CAN CAUSE OVER HEATING AND THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE FIRE.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A JUMPER HARNESS WITH A RELAY WHICH WILL RE-ROUTE AND ACTIVATE ALL A2 ACCESSORIES THROUGH THE RELAY.
On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the steering column switch module may have been incorrectly routed during manufacturing. This could cause the harness to chafe on the steering column adjustment, which could affect or cause one or more of the following systems to fail: turn signals, gear selector, Electric Power Steering (EPS) or Electronic stability control functions. Additionally, this condition could potentially cause the engine to stall, and could affect proper airbag deployment or cause an airbag to deploy inadvertently. These potential outcomes in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect, repair and reroute the wiring harness as necessary.
On certain vehicles, the insulated bulkhead connector (used to join the two halves of the positive battery cable) may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. Over time, the bolt connection could loosen, which would increase electrical resistance. In addition, an incorrectly insulated bulkhead connector could allow humidity to accumulate at this location, causing current leakage. These issues could cause the cable connection to overheat, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, secure the insulated bulkhead connector. In addition, protective grease will be added to the area and the plastic battery positive terminal cover will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, a defect in the brake light switch could cause the brake lights to become inoperative. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the brake lamp switch.

On certain vehicles, the high electrical current flowing through the headlamp switch during simultaneous operation of the headlamps and fog lamps may cause the switches internal bimetal circuit breaker to open due to overheating. Should this occur, the vehicle's headlights may go out for brief intervals (flickering or blinking). Extended cycling of the circuit breaker due to continued overheating can result in longer duration outages.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will install a headlamp switch which incorporates a circuit breaker of revised design, and a wiring harness connector, if needed.

Certain vehicles equipped with a convertible roof fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118 – Power-Operated Window, Partition and Roof Panel Systems. The overhead switch (which operates the convertible roof and the power windows) does not operate in the manner prescribed by the Standard. This could result in inadvertent power window activation, which could cause injury if a body part becomes trapped by a closing window.
Safety Risk
No risk description available.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the overhead roof console assembly with an updated version.
