2017 Indian Chieftain Recalls & Complaints

The 2017 Indian Chieftain has 3 recalls, the most serious involving a gear position switch that can display neutral when the bike is actually in gear, causing it to lurch forward unexpectedly when started.

Two recalls affect lighting. In one, certain motorcycles may have been fitted with a European-market headlight instead of the correct US-market unit, which produces the wrong light pattern and reduces how well other drivers can see the motorcycle at night. In the other, a failing electrical connection at the vehicle control module can cut power to the front lights entirely, including the headlight, leaving the rider without forward illumination while riding.
