The 2008 Infiniti EX35 has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the steering column on vehicles equipped with the power tilt/telescope option, where excessive play in the steering wheel or an outright loss of steering control can increase the risk of a crash.
A related steering concern affects the column's upper bearing retainer, which can fail and place added stress on the upper bearing, producing the same loose, wandering feel in the steering wheel and making the vehicle harder to keep stable. On the safety equipment side, there is a condition where a significantly drained battery causes the voltage in the electrical system to drop low enough that the airbag control unit suppresses the passenger-side airbag and turns on the airbag warning light. This means that if a crash occurs while the system is in this suppressed state, the passenger airbag may not deploy when needed. The fourth recall covers the daytime running lamps, whose bulb filaments can burn out earlier than expected, leaving the vehicle without its daytime lighting and making it harder for other drivers and pedestrians to spot the car in normal daylight conditions.
